Rosacea
What is Rosacea? Rosacea is a skin condition that causes redness and small visible blood vessels on the face. This condition may also cause small red bumps that can be filled with pus. These symptoms can flare-up for weeks and then go away. Rosacea can commonly be mistaken for acne or other similar skin condtions.
Symptoms include:
- Facial redness
- Small red bumps
- Eye problems (dry eyes, swollen eyes)
- Enlarged nose (rhinophyma)- occurs more often in men than women
While the cause of Rosacea is still unknown genetic and environmental factors are a consideration as to why this condition appears. For many patients, there are triggers that can cause flare-ups. These include:
- Exercise
- Alcohol
- Sunlight and wind
- Hot drinks and spicy food
- Certain medications
- Cosmetic procedures
- Stress
There is no cure for rosacea but there are treatments that can help control the signs and symptoms of this condition. Topical medications such a Finacea, Rhofade, and Soolantra can help with the redness of the skin. Oral medication such as Oracea, doxycycline, and Claravis can help treat the acne like bumps that may occur with Rosacea. Laser therapy and light therapy can also help with small vessels that may appear. And finally, a specialized technique called MICROTOX can be very helpful for reducing pore size, inflammation and redness in Rosacea and is performed by Board-Certified Dermatologist Dr. Mayha Patel!
